Department of Aquatic Product Technology (THP) IPB
Brief History
The Department of Aquatic Product Technology (THP) at IPB University originated from the Fisheries Technology Division under the Fisheries Production Management Department, Faculty of Fisheries, established on September 1, 1963.
Subsequently, in 1985, it was officially designated as the Department of Fishery Product Processing (PHP) through the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 0110/0/1985. Since then, THP has consistently grown as a pioneer in education, research, and innovation in aquatic product technology in Indonesia.

As part of IPB University, THP plays a significant role both nationally and internationally. Indeed, Indonesia, recognized as the country with the world’s richest marine biodiversity—especially within the Coral Reef Triangle Initiative—provides a strong foundation for THP to focus on the following key areas:
- Handling and processing of aquatic biological resources
- Biotechnology and raw material characterization
- Development of environmentally friendly and sustainable aquatic products

In addition, all THP study programs are nationally accredited with the highest ratings: Undergraduate – Excellent, Master – Excellent, and Doctoral – Very Good.
