IPB’s tuna eye innovation for stunting has become an important breakthrough in addressing nutritional problems in Indonesia. Behind the tuna processing industry, there is significant potential that has long been overlooked, namely fish eyes. This part, once considered waste, has now become the basis of an innovation by Prof. Wini Trilaksani in the form of a supplement called Vita Docosa. In this way, fisheries waste can be transformed into a high-value solution for public health.

IPB Innovation in Utilizing Tuna Eyes

This IPB innovation stems from the reality of the fishing industry, where only around 40–60% of tuna is utilized, while the rest is wasted. Therefore, the potential of waste products such as tuna eyes became the focus of research.

Recognizing this situation, Prof. Wini conducted research to uncover hidden nutritional content. The results showed that tuna eyes contain high levels of DHA, which is highly beneficial for health.
