Students of the Department of Aquatic Product Technology, IPB University, Successfully Won the 2020 International Essay Competition with the theme “My Role for a Better Sustainable Global Food System”
The Summer Course Program “Nutrition, Agriculture, and Sustainable Food Systems in Tropical Countries” was organized by the Vocational School of IPB University and the International Collaboration Office (ICO) of IPB University on 18-31 August 2020 via Zoom Meeting. This activity offers many benefits, such as 2 credits (sks), e-certificate, competition prizes, speakers from various countries, and poster design workshops. Participants who took part in this activity numbered 104 students from various universities in the world, such as IPB University, Polytechnic of Agricultural Development (Polbangtan) Malang, Polbangtan Medan, Polbangtan Bogor, Tarlac Agricultural University, Iloilo Science and Technology University, Guimaras State University, University of Western Australia, Nagoya University, National Taiwan University, Melbourne Polytechnic, and Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Science. The implementation of the events that took place in this activity, namely cultural exchange, webinars, group discussions, and virtual field trips. The webinar event brought in international speakers and practitioners who were experienced in the food industry. The competition activities are divided into 2 competition categories, namely the International Poster Competition and the International Essay Competition with the theme “My Role for a Better Sustainable Global Food System.
Students from the Department of Aquatic Product Technology IPB University who participated in this activity numbered 4 people, namely Ayunda Jasmin Raszeid (C34180023), Chandabalo (C34180063), Mirna Arfus Sukma Fitra (C34180083), and Nurfauzi Satrio (C34180085). The two teams of THP IPB University students won 2nd and 3rd place for the essay writing competition category in English. The essays presented by THP IPB University students are innovations in aquatic products made from seaweed and shellfish waste that have not been utilized properly. The 2nd place winner was won by the Ayunda Jasmin Raszeid and Mirna Arfus Sukma Fitra team with the essay title “Utilization of Shell Waste Extraction Compound: Blood Cockle (Anadara granosa) as An Innovation for Blood Clotting Biocatalyst” and the 3rd place winner was won by the Chandabalo and Nurfauzi Satrio team with the essay title “SEASALT: Innovation of Healthy Functional Salt from Seaweed to Against Stunting for Hypertensive Sufferers (Pregnant Mother)”.
