THP IPB Students Win UTU Awards 2020

UTU Awards is a national scale event held annually and consistently by Teuku Umar University since 2015. This year is the sixth (6th) year of this competition. UTU Awards is expected to be a starting point in exploring creative and innovative ideas from students, especially in the field of AGRO & MARINE INDUSTRY. Every year, the average number of proposals received reaches more than 500 proposals from all students at various campuses in Indonesia. Even in 2019 and 2020, UTU Awards has also been attended by participants from abroad, including from campuses in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. There are 4 competition categories offered, namely Commercial Research, Innovative Products based, Business Planning and Online Store Design (E-Store) which are all based on Agro & Marine.

The UTU awards judging itself is very strict, starting from administrative selection, Online desk evaluation and Oral presentation (this year it was done online via the ZOOM application. The jury comes from various institutions and universities, both domestic and foreign who are very competent and experienced in their fields. This year the jury came from the University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, Bandung Institute of Technology, Bogor Agricultural Institute, Syah Kuala Aceh University, Teuku Umar University, Bengkulu University, BPPT, Univ.Malaysia Terengganu and KEMDIKBUD.

Alhamdulillah this year from IPB there are 2 teams that passed in the Innovative Product and Business Planning categories. The two teams are chaired by Iffah Nabilah from the Department of Food Science and Technology class 54 and Fahri Sinulingga from the Department of Aquatic Product Technology class 53. In the Innovative Product category, Iffah’s Team brought the title “TORBOS” Functional Instant Noodles Torbangun Leaf Extract (Coleus amboinicus Lour) as ASI Booster and Premenstrual Syndrome Fighter” and won 1st place. In the business planning category, Fahri Sinulingga and member Muhamad Zidan Rahmat from Management 55 brought the title “WEGROVID: Innovation in Seaweed-Based Imitation Meat Business and Patin Fish Surimi, Preventive Action Efforts for Degenerative Diseases in the COVID-19 Pandemic Era” and won 2nd place. This achievement is extraordinary considering our competitors are quite strong and tight, there are Brawijaya University, Diponegoro University, Airlangga University, University of North Sumatra and others. I hope that next year, juniors from IPB, especially from the Department of Aquatic Product Technology, can take a look at this event because in addition to the very tempting prizes and also look at their achievements and experiences,” said Fahri Sinulingga.
